Wanted to let everyone know of the Open House for the Bryant Farms Rd. Extension and South Charlotte Reinvestment Program projects on May 16, 2019 from 6-8pm at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church.
South Charlotte Partners has been actively involved over the past year advocating for funding, facilitating community engagement and prioritizing these area projects and is happy that CDOT is now hosting this community meeting.
It has been reported by CMS District 6 Board Member Sean Strain that CMS will purchase the land across the street from Ardrey Kell High School that was recently rezoned for single family and townhomes in order to build a new school in the area.

Your action is needed to support funding for 4 major road projects in South Charlotte.
We all know the amount of congestion in our area and this will only increase with the extraordinary growth happening in South Charlotte.
The Projects include:
▪ H150245 - Ballantyne Commons Parkway (U-6030) - Widen from 2 to 4 lanes from Annalexa Lane to Rea Rd.
▪ H150597 - Ardrey Kell Road - Widen roadway from US 521(Johnston Road) to Rea Road to 4 lane median divided road.
▪ H150595 - Lancaster Highway - Widen from NC51 in Pineville to Ballantyne Commons Pkwy in South Charlotte from 2 to 4 lane median divided road.
▪ H171318 - Ardrey Kell Road - Widen from 2 to 4 lanes with bicycle and pedestrian enhancements between Rea Rd. and Providence Rd.
As these are Division Needs Projects, the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization's (CRTPO) public comment period for assigning local input points for these projects is from Sept. 20 - Oct. 4, 2018.
The local input points are part of the process to develop the 2020-2029 Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) which is a listing of projects to be delivered within an upcoming ten-year work program.
This plan is administered by NCDOT and is called "Prioritization 5.0."
The local input points account for up to 30% of a project's overall score. Right now, most of these projects are slated to be completed decades from now so it is imperative that we do our part to help move these projects up on the list!

This is a notice for a Community Meeting for Rezoning Petition No. 2018-094 relating to an approximately 2.03 acre site located at 11831 Elm Lane.
The existing zoning is R-12 MF (Multi-Family) (CD), and the Petitioner is requesting that the site be rezoned to the UR-2 (CD) zoning district to accommodate a residential community on the site that could contain up to 20 for sale townhome units.

This is a community notice for a Community Meeting for Rezoning Petition No. 2018-090 relating to an approximately 1.15 acre site on the northeast corner of the intersection of Providence Rd. and Allison Woods Drive.
The existing zoning is R-3, and the Petitioner is requesting that the site be rezoned to the MUDD-O (CD) zoning district to accommodate a climate controlled self-storage facility.

This is a community notice for the I-485 Express Lanes Pre-Construction Public Open Houses. The I-485 Express Lanes project proposes to add one express lane in each direction on I-485 between 1-77 and U.S. 74 (Independence Blvd).
The proposed road project also includes improvements to the John Street Interchange, a new interchange at Weddington Road, adding one general purpose lane in each direction along I-485 between Rea Rd. and Providence Rd., and the widening of the Ballantyne Commons Parkway Bridge. The project is scheduled to begin construction in the Summer of 2019.
The two open houses will be held on:

* Thursday, July 26th from 4-7pm at Pineville United Methodist Church - 110 S. Polk Street, Pineville, NC 28134.

This is a community notice regarding the rezoning of the 7.5 acres on the west side of Elm Lane, south of the intersection of Camfield Street and Elm Lane - to the rear of Living Hope at Ballantyne. The existing zoning is R-3 and Petition 2018-044 seeks to rezone it to the UR-2(CD) zoning district for up to 65 townhome dwelling units.
A community meeting was held on May 2nd. A second community meeting was held on Wednesday, June 27th and the City Council hearing was on July 16th.
The Petitioner deferred the public hearing to have more time to make revisions to the rezoning plan and held another meeting with area residents. With the deferral, the earliest date for a City Council vote on the petition is in September.

Make Your Voice Heard About New Development & Zoning Laws!
Now is the time to provide your input about the new Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). According to the UDO website, "Charlotte has more than doubled its population since the 1990s, yet the main policies and regulations that guide growth and development have not been comprehensively updated since that time. This exceptional growth is projected to continue for the foreseeable future due, in part, to the City’s strong economy and quality of life."

Below is a community notice regarding the rezoning of the 36 acres located on the south side of Ardrey Kell Rd. (just opposite Ardrey Kell High School).
The existing zoning for the 36.7 acres is R-3. This Petition, 2017-171, as submitted is for MX-2 (innovative) and provides for single family detached homes and townhomes for a total of 220 dwellings according to the revised site plan, together with accessory uses as allowed in the MX-2 Zoning District.
There was a Community Meeting on November 29th where more details were shared regarding the petition. Here is a link to the Meeting Report. There was a 2nd community meeting on Monday, February 26th to discuss changes to the site plan.
The Zoning Committee Meeting was held on March 6th and the City Council Public Hearing date was March 19, 2018.

Participating in the rezoning process is important because the development of such a large tract of land has the potential to increase the strain on the already congested stretch between North Community House Rd, and Ballantyne Commons Parkway. The community should be able to raise concerns regarding traffic, congestion, necessary road improvements to nearby intersections, increased entrance and exit lanes to the high school, and pedestrian safety including crosswalks and sidewalks.

The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization's (CRTPO) public comment period for the 2045 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) is from January 16- February 17, 2018.
The 2045 MTP is very important as it includes transportation projects to be implemented over the next 25 years to reduce congestion and improve mobility. South Charlotte transportation projects are included in the MTP and this is a prime opportunity for us to let CRTPO know that these projects are important to help relieve congestion in our area.
